Heads up before you go: GPS can be tricky since there are two separate sites (the original fort remains and the reconstructed fort), and the replica fort—the one most families will want—is actually a separate exit from the state park itself. Once there, plan for about an hour exploring the cabins, where staff demonstrate pioneer skills like weaving and land surveying, which reviewers found genuinely engaging for kids. There's also a small gift shop and a steep hillside trail across the river to a working cannon replica if your group is up for a hike, though not every building is open to enter.
