Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium
Nature
Large accredited zoo and aquarium with strong conservation programming — zoology, animal adaptation, and wildlife conservation biology.
What families say
Families report a full day's worth of activities, with a good variety of major animals (lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes) plus an aquarium and a current bonus of robotic dinosaurs scattered throughout the grounds—a hit with kids. Weekday mornings are recommended to avoid crowds, and be prepared for hills and walking to see everything, though the payoff is worth it. Note that some construction/renovation is ongoing (new entrance, updated aquarium, upcoming elephant/giraffe habitat), and a couple of visitors mentioned early stretches of the visit feeling animal-sparse before things picked up.
