Franconia Notch State Park
Franconia Notch State Park
Nature

NH state park featuring a glacially carved flume gorge — covers geomorphology, glacial geology, and White Mountains ecology on a developed trail system.

What families say
Franconia Notch offers something for a range of ages and energy levels: the Franconia Ridge Loop is a rewarding but strenuous full-day (around 8 hours) hike best suited to older kids and experienced adventurers, while spots like the Basin are an easy, short walk from the highway that's more manageable for younger children. Families note the changing weather on the ridge can be much colder and wetter than the valley below, so pack layers, and trails can get muddy. There's also a visitor center with restrooms and souvenirs, plus beautiful cascades and river views along the way, making it a solid stop even outside of peak hiking season—one family visited happily even during heavy snowfall.
