What families say

Families with kids of all ages seem to enjoy this site, from the visitor center's video and displays to walking out to the reconstructed earthlodge and the still-visible village depressions from the original community. Rangers get praise for being knowledgeable and helpful, and there are shaded picnic areas, trails with info boards, and modern restrooms—plus it's pet-friendly outdoors. Plan for a bit of driving to see the full site (including the area beyond the visitor center), and it's a great tie-in if you're studying Sacagawea or Lewis and Clark, since she lived among the Hidatsa here before joining the expedition.
